Corpi Liberi is a winning project in the public call ‘BEAUTY AND LEGALITY FOR A PUGLIA FREE FROM THE MAFIA’, year 2021
P.O. PUGLIA ERDF – ESF 2014-2020 – OT IX – Promoting social inclusion, the fight against poverty and all forms of discrimination Action 9.6 – “Interventions to strengthen social enterprises” (ESF) Sub-Action 9.6.b “Social animation and collective participation activities to rebuild the identity of places and communities, connected to the functional recovery and reuse of old buildings, including assets confiscated from the mafia”
Corpi Liberi stems from the belief that art should encourage young people to reflect on issues such as active citizenship and education on legality, supporting schools. The project is aimed at students of the Falcone-Borsellino Comprehensive School in Bari and minors referred by the social services of Municipality 2 of the City of Bari. The young people will create a Festival of Legality with performances created with the help of external experts.
The project was created to combat early school leaving, enhance the role of schools in preventing youth distress and the fascination with clans, and revitalise the suburbs in social and cultural terms.
There can be no legality without culture. This is because culture precedes and prepares, in a sense, what legality ultimately validates and sanctions. Culture expresses justice.
The culture of legality recognises the authority of the law and commits the community to act in accordance with the law. However, the law often leaves unresolved or has not yet provided for the resolution of new situations, determined by the passage of history and social transformations.
Some cultural projects of social innovation strive to fill this void, the void that dramatically opens up when legality alone is not enough to regulate the life of a community in terms of human values.
In line with regional guidelines, Corpi Liberi seeks to use artistic languages as tools for raising awareness and promoting the moral growth of the youth community, starting with schools, the main point of reference in the individual journey of citizens.
